How this site is funded
Mā Tori is a privately owned cruising catamaran, and this website exists first to find her next owners. Beyond the sale, the site helps fund our cruising in a few ways, and we'd rather tell you plainly than have you wonder:
Affiliate links. Some articles contain affiliate links to products and services we recommend. If you buy through one, the boat fund earns a small commission at no extra cost to you. We only link to gear and services we actually use aboard or would genuinely recommend to a friend on the dock — and where a product disappointed us, we say so. Articles containing affiliate links carry a note at the top saying so.
As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases. We may also earn commissions through other affiliate programmes, including PredictWind and eBay.
Our own products. We sell digital guides (like the Catamaran Buyer's Pack) built from our own experience buying, refitting and sailing this boat. Payment and delivery are handled by an independent merchant-of-record platform — we never see your card details.
Crew berths. Crew joining our offshore passages contribute a share of the passage's actual costs — provisioning, fuel, consumables and clearance fees. That's cost-sharing among working crew, not a commercial fare, and it's explained fully on the passages page.
Nothing on this site is sponsored content, and nobody pays us for editorial coverage. The comparison guides mention competitors' boats because buyers compare boats — no brand has paid to appear or to be flattered.
What data this site collects
Analytics. We use privacy-friendly, cookieless analytics to see which pages get read and roughly where visitors come from. It doesn't use cookies, doesn't follow you to other websites, and doesn't identify you personally — which is why you don't see a cookie banner here.
Forms. When you submit a form — a comment, an enquiry, a crew or collab application — the details you enter are emailed to us via a form-handling service (Formspree) so we can reply. We don't sell or share them, and email addresses on comments are never published.
The mailing list. If you join our "Follow the journey" list, your address is stored with our email provider and you'll get occasional updates from the crew. We use double opt-in — you'll get a confirmation email first, and no confirmation means no emails. Every email includes an unsubscribe link that works.
Embedded content. Pages with embedded third-party content (like the Spotify playlist on the Adventures page or the PredictWind tracking map) load that content from the third party, whose own privacy terms apply to the embed.
